President's Update November 22, 2024

A few items before you we go on break

  • Election -

    • 26.4% of the membership voted in the election this past week. Our agreement for Article 6 - Health and Welfare - was passed. Once it is signed it will also be sent to be posted at your site level. Here are the results:

  • Immediate Action Call for Help -

    • More than 2.8 million hard-working Americans, including many educators, have their Social Security benefits reduced—or lose them entirely—due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).  On November 12th, the Spanberger-Graves discharge petition successfully forced a floor vote in the House of Representatives. It passed 327-75. This sends the bill to the Senate. There are currently 62 Senate Co-sponsors including Senators Padilla and Butler. NEA is actively lobbying NOW to bring it to a vote before the Thanksgiving recess. Senate Leader Schumer has committed to bring it forward. NEA is asking members to contact Senate offices to demand a floor vote now. It is as easy as following the link below and sending an email. Send it to friends/ family and anyone who works in education or has children in education. It took me about 60 seconds to read the page, type in my info., and send my email to our state representatives.
